Dhan markets DhanHQ explicitly at algo traders, and the product roadmap reflects that rather than treating the API as an afterthought.
Order placement costs nothing. The real-time and historical data APIs are ₹499/month — and that is the figure people misquote as “Dhan charges ₹500/month for the API”. It is the data pack, not the API.
For most retail algo users the combination of a free order API plus ₹499 data works out cheaper than Kite Connect, while serving expired options history that several free APIs do not.
